SouthPeak Games and Firefly Studios Launching Into Action With Unique Stronghold 3 Community Competition

Fans Asked to Choose Beastly Catapult Ammo in the Upcoming Castle Building Sim

SouthPeak Games and Firefly Studios have today launched a totally unique community competition for upcoming castle building strategy sim Stronghold 3. Fans of the title on Facebook have the opportunity to have their input in development by choosing which dead animal will become the new rather grisly ammunition for trebuchets in the game… yes, you read that correctly.

“Medieval sieges were often just long periods of people doing nothing,” explains Simon Bradbury, Stronghold3’s designer. “The besiegers would sometimes catapult all manner of things over the walls, in the hope of causing disease and panic or possibly just to relieve the boredom! Traditionally we’ve had a deceased cow as alternative trebuchet ammo but in Stronghold 3 we’re taking massive development leaps by offering several dead animals to choose from! Once again, I must stress they’re already dead before being launched skywards. They’re no more. They have ceased to be. Bereft of life.”

From today, the Stronghold community can head over to http://www.facebook.com/stronghold3 and vote for one of four creatures to be launched from trebuchets, with the winner appearing in the finished product. The dead beasts will then cause a cloud of disease that seeps through castles, killing anyone in its path – depending upon the size of animal, the cloud will change in size or will split into multiple foul fogs. The options available include:

1. Senile donkey

2. Cage of rabid otters

3. Retired dancing bear

4. Sack of diseased badgers

Since first launching in 2001, the Stronghold series has become one of the most respected in its genre thanks to its mix of precision village building, fast-paced real-time gameplay and dramatic sieges with hundreds of enemies swarming over castles. Stronghold 3 promises to be the best yet, with a keep full of fantastic new features that ensure old and new fans alike experience a gritty slice of medieval life. Stronghold 3 will launch on PC in Q1 2011.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AN ANCIENT BATTLE BETWEEN LIGHT AND DARK COMES TO LIFE LIKE NEVER BEFORE IN BATTLE VS CHESS

SouthPeak’s New Twist on the Strategy Classic Moves Into Position on Consoles, Windows PC, Mac and Handhelds This Fall

MIDLOTHIAN, VA — May 27, 2010 – Leading videogame publisher, SouthPeak Games, today announced it will publish Battle Vs Chess – a dramatic evolution of the timeless strategy board game – on consoles, Windows PC, Mac and handhelds this Fall in the United States, Canada, South America and the UK.

Developed by TopWare Interactive and Gaijin Entertainment, Battle Vs Chess aims to bring the classic tabletop game into the modern age, without removing the essential qualities that have made it popular for centuries. Familiar chess pieces are brought to life as richly detailed 3D models, with players seeing the spectacular results of their actions in their quest for domination of the board.

The traditional white and black armies have evolved into an army of light with their brave knights in shining armor, pitted against the wicked dark army of demons and beastly golems. Each piece is intricately animated and as players move them around the board they spring into life, ready to wage war. If a square is occupied by an enemy unit, they enter into a brutal clash that sees the foe removed from the board in bloody combat.

Another evolutionary element Battle vs. Chess brings to the arena is the addition of the optional Action Mode. If selected, instead of entering a scripted animation when attacking, players challenge their opponent in a beat-‘em-up style encounter. Using a variety of weapons, fighting techniques and combos, players must best their opponent in a fast-paced flurry of blows and special moves –adding a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘checkmate’.

Battle Vs Chess is set for release this fall on PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows PC, Mac, Wii™, Nintendo DS™ and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system.

THOUGHTS FROM THE GAME REVIEW NETWORK

One of our members had the opportunity to review this game and here’s what she thought.

Mandi @ Mandi Minding Money – I was incredibly surprised to learn that I am totally addicted to “raising” my baby! ….. I love that this game is easy to play, and fairly interactive. Young girls could have a lot of fun pretending to be mommy and taking care of their baby. I think one of the highlights of the game would be the ability to change the nursery decor and go shopping for clothes, hair styles, and toys. ….. The camera is such a neat way to capture moments in the game, and would be really neat to see what types of pictures different children would take!
