Blitz 1UP and Anthill Games release Monkey Pole Climb for PC

27 OCTOBER 2011 LEAMINGTON SPA, UK Blitz 1UP have gone totally bananas with the announcement of the final release from their indie games initiative, PC action puzzler Monkey Pole Climb.

Winner of the Best Gameplay category at the International Mobile Gaming Awards, Monkey Pole Climb, is now available worldwide for PC and the mischievous monkeys will soon be scampering to iPhone and iPad. Combining utterly fabulous hand-drawn animation from David Hankin and a funky monkey-themed soundtrack, the game challenges players to help groups of monkeys reach the top of their poles.

Heston the Gorilla loves balloons. He can’t get enough of them and even makes his own. When the monkeys started taking the proverbial out of his hobby he decided it was time to teach his hairy cousins a lesson! If the monkeys can get to the tops of their poles at the same time, Heston the gorilla will give them back their fruity yellow gold… But it won’t be as easy as it sounds, because Heston has concocted a whole range of devious new balloons to try and stop them reaching their goal. The player will have to re-arrange the balloons to help the monkeys get to the top and win back their delicious treasure.

With 100 levels, three game modes, an ever increasing variety of balloon types and bonuses and dozens of medals to win along the way, Monkey Pole Climb is an addictive primate-themed game like no other.

“What’s not to love about monkeys? I can’t get enough of ‘em!” says Blitz 1UP Producer Neil Holmes. “Whether they’re stealing your precious hoard of golden bananas or flinging their faeces at each other in a comical fashion, they’re always entertaining and addictive. Monkey Pole Climb is a super-cute combination of action, puzzles and monkeys which is bound to make everyone go ape!”

Paul Carruthers of Anthill Games adds, “David and I are really excited that after all our work and effort, Monkey Pole Climb is now available. We’ve been busily polishing the game for some time now and finally people will be able to see what we’ve been up to! It’s very difficult to produce a completely new type of game and keep it playable, fun and exciting, but I think we pulled it off with Monkey Pole Climb.”

Blitz Games Studios’ indie game initiative, Blitz 1UP, signs Spyn Doctor Games’ puzzle sensation Your Doodles Are Bugged! for PC release later this year

03 AUG 2010 LEAMINGTON SPA, UK Blitz 1UP, an initiative from Blitz Games Studios, has announced the signing of Your Doodles Are Bugged! and its upcoming PC release. Previously released in February this year on Xbox Live Indie Games, Your Doodles are Bugged! is being brought to life for the PC with a host of new features. Other possible platforms for release are also being looked in to.

Your Doodles Are Bugged! is a game with a lovingly hand-doodled art style and unique gameplay. Follow the story of Doodleus, the Master Doodler, who has accidentally hexed his pet bugs into his doodles during a magic explosion in his studio. Your job is to grab the magic pen and draw new lines into the doodle, changing the layout, building roads, bridges and stairs that allow the squeaky-voiced bugs to reach the honey pot and their route to freedom.

Find out if you’ve got what it takes to become a master doodler with the following features:

· The Doodle Studio allows you to create your own doodles, play through them and share with your friends

· Improved controls for the PC version with full mouse play support

· Four completely new levels

· Record lists, including five new music tracks

· Unlockable free-play arena

· Unlockable bonus doodles

New additional features TBA for other platforms – stay tuned!

Chris Swan, Blitz 1UP’s Business Development Director, says: “We are extremely excited to be working with Spyn Doctor to help bring the expanded version of their fantastic game Your Doodles Are Bugged! to PC and other platforms later this year.”

Adds Spyn Doctor Games’ Johannes Hubert: “I am very happy that I can finally introduce my little crawling, jumping and squeaking bugs to the wide world of PC players out there. It has been really difficult to keep them bottled up in the Xbox all this time! The partnership with Blitz 1UP allows me to do this while staying focused on the actual game development and still remaining an independent game developer.”

17 AUG 2010 LEAMINGTON SPA, UK All royalties from the first weekend’s sales of Clover: A Curious Tale, now returned home to the XBLIG service, will be donated by Binary Tweed and Blitz Games Studios to international charity War Child.

Extra content has been added to the already critically acclaimed game from Binary Tweed and Blitz 1UP to further support the charity. All profits from the sale of the XBLIG version will be donated to War Child during the weekend of 21-22 August 2010.

Blitz 1UP, an initiative from Blitz Games Studios that assists up and coming indie developers, has helped Binary Tweed to hugely enhance the original political-puzzler Clover. Now with new features including full voice acting, Clover: A Curious Tale boasts 50 per cent more puzzles, overhauled animation, multiple endings and French and Spanish translations.

Blitz 1UP Producer Neil Holmes says: “Blitz Games Studios is thrilled to be able to support such a worthy cause, and it’s exactly this kind of initiative that the indie spirit fosters. Clover: A Curious Tale is a great game any thoughtful gamer will enjoy, and a shining example of how indie games can maximise their potential through Blitz 1UP.”

Adds Binary Tweed’s Deejay says: “The donations to War Child really enable people to make a difference, as well as exploring issues through the game. War Child is a perfect fit for Clover.”

War Child’s Sara Bowcutt said: “War Child is thrilled to have been chosen to receive royalties from the newest version of Clover: A Curious Tale. The charity has always had strong links to the gaming world and this new fundraising initiative from Binary Tweed continues in this vein. The money gamers are raising during the weekend will go towards helping the children we work with who have been hit the hardest by war. On behalf of War Child – thank you!”

BLITZ GAMES STUDIOS CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF SUCCESS WITH NEW GAME SIGNING

31 MARCH 2010 LEAMINGTON SPA, UK Blitz Games Studios is celebrating 20 years since it was formed (as Interactive Studios) in 1990. From humble beginnings creating the Dizzy franchise in the mid 80s, the Oliver Twins have transformed Blitz into one of the most stable and respected independent development studios in the world.

Blitz is now poised to jump into the next 20 years of success with the signing of a major new title for 2011 just a few weeks before its biggest ever game release – Dead to Rights: Retribution.

Blitz today is well known for its family games (Blitz Games) including the SpongeBob, Karaoke Revolution and The Biggest Loser franchises. Its other divisions encompass mature AAA titles (Volatile Games), Serious Games (TruSim) and internal training and external development of the next generation of game developers (Blitz Academy).

A slew of new indie-developed titles through the Studios’ Blitz 1UP label (within the Blitz Arcade short-session division) will also be released throughout 2010. The Studio’s devotion to technological innovation means its licensable middleware engine, BlitzTech is on the cutting edge of new console capabilities and has provided the bedrock for the company’s wide range of games, including titles released across all console generations and the world’s first Stereoscopic 3D console title – Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han Tao.

Blitz and particularly CEO and co-founder Dr Philip Oliver (a founder member and director of TIGA) have also been integral to recent government lobbying for the long-term benefit of the UK games development industry, resulting in the recent tax break announcement.

“When we started out 20 years ago we could not have dreamt of having such a talented and dedicated bunch of people working with us to make fantastic games for a worldwide audience,” says Philip. “We’re immensely proud of the people that work here. During this time we have worked with many wonderful people and companies – I cannot imagine what our lives would have been without video games!”

Adds Dr Andrew Oliver, Blitz Games Studios’ CTO and co-founder: “We’ve stayed true to the mission statement we set up at the beginning: to create critically and commercially successful games within a stable, friendly and professional environment.

“We’ve also created some amazing technological firsts with BlitzTech, and we’re now in the position where we’re trusted by major companies to work on their most important intellectual properties. What’s more, it’s still an exciting experience to keep up with and lead the latest technological advances, which is what makes the games industry such an amazing place to work.”

Blitz’s business strategy has been highly influenced by Richard Smithies, a former investment banker and corporate finance advisor, since he joined the company as CFO more than five years ago. He says: “Philip and Andrew are two of the most creative and innovative people in the games industry. I’ve known them since before the company was formed and we share similar ethical business values. During this period I’ve seen Blitz go from strength to strength – here’s to the next 20 years!”
